The Deerwood Arboretum and Nature Area is a town park and botanical garden devoted to trees and it is located along the Little Harpeth River that runs along Deerwood Lane, Brentwood, Tennessee. It is open daily without charge. The arboretum was the site of the city’s sewage treatment plant until the early 1980s and was then converted to a park in 1992. Deerwood features more than 69 different kinds of trees and all can be classified using a Tree Identification Trail Guide. As a Tennessee Certified Arboretum, most sights of each species you will be able to see are within 20 feet of the trail. Most of the tagged trees that you may see are native to Tennessee. Sections of the trail connect Deerwood to Belle Rive Drive and a footbridge over the Little Harpeth River that leads to Kingsbury Drive in Laurelwood. The shelter at Deerwood Arboretum and Natural Area can be booked by the local schools, boy and girls scout groups, and more for educational purpose trips.
