Camp Y.I. is located on a peninsula that sits on Percy Priest Lake in La Vergne TN. With around 175 acres, it provides an outdoor playground for campers grades 2 – 10 and Counselors-In-Training joining grades 11-12. Since 1945 they have been “Building Leaders for Tomorrow” by supplying opportunities for children to build self-confidence and responsibilities in a fun outdoor setup. Youth Incorporated’s overall mission is to increase the mental, moral and physical development of boys and girls. Youth Incorporated was established by Allen Dobson, who was a Nashville banker, businessman, and patron. Approved on June 25, 1945, through the many State Laws of Tennessee, Youth Inc. has concentrated its objectives mainly in the Middle Tennessee area. In 1955, Camp Y.I. was made to move from its initial location because of the addition to the Nashville International Airport. In the late 1960s, the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers moved the area to construct a body of water for the Nashville area. More than 400 acres of farmland were fully covered in water.
However, instead of having a riverfront-style area for just swimming and canoeing, Youth Inc. possessed a 175-acre piece of land with a lovely overlook of the new lake. We offer many opportunities for youth to learn responsibilities at our summer camp. Summer camp is a traditional experience where we create a community of children. Within just one week or two sessions, you will see growth in your children’s characteristics. Campers can experience a variety of activities like horseback riding, activities on the lake, waterskiing, kneeboarding, tubing, canoeing, pool, outdoor ropes courses, climbing tower, arts and crafts, camp crafts, outdoor living skills, and nighttime games. As a team member at Camp Y.I., be ready to expect a warm welcome in an open, diverse, and inviting community. You will be assisting children to build confidence, develop life skills, and be an example to them. You should be an active, goofy, openhearted person who loves kids.
